I am a practicing visual artist working primarily in sculpture/installation. I’m an avid mould-maker fascinated by the endless possibilities of materials.
My artwork investigates unbalanced power relations and hierarchies, observing the impact of harsh social systems and how they exert pressure on the value and care of human life. Engaging in the counterwork of these systems, my practice critiques the function of law enforcement through object-based works, installations, public interventions, and public art. My artworks vividly encapsulate significant issues such as the militarization of police forces, the use of excessive force against demonstrators, the shift of fiscal priorities from community services to law enforcement, the propagation of police culture, and the ensuing divide between officers and citizens. Often applying mould-making and casting techniques, I am drawn to visual strategies such as repetition, gradation, accumulation, deterioration, and the tension between form and material. Using corrosive and fallible materials such as rust-infused plaster, crumbling concrete, or soft silicone I transform replicas of uniforms and police paraphernalia into thought-provoking installations which question the status quo understanding of order and criminality.
